New Blog Location

This a very old Blog site I setup in 2010-12 timeframe. At that time, I was hosting my own site using TZO and DNS redirection to a server at my home. AWS came along and now I'm using LightSale to host a WordPress site. Please visit Eric Frayer.com/Blog for more recent thoughts and content! Thanks!

ThinkDataMining Blog

I wanted to stand up a new blog site host it myself. I love the functionality of Google's Blogger site -- but I wanted to be able to tweak the apperance more and see behind the scenes how the blog works.

After reviewing the applications used by some of the bloggers I'm following I decided to go with a WordPress blog site.  I'll be posting more thoughts and content there and so far I'm happy with the decision.  Please visit http://www.thinkdatamining.com/wordpress for more.  There is also a SharePoint wiki and other BI - SharePoint content available on the ThinkDataMining.com site!

Note: this was originally published on 7/30/12.  The www.thinkdatamining.com site is only available during certain times.  Please visit www.ericfrayer.com for more recent info. Thanks!

SharePoint and BI

I believe, BI is about using data to aid in decision-making. That said, being able to leverage SharePoint to organize and present information seems pretty important. Here's a link on how to get started:

Are you a BI Avoider

Found an interesting blog that describes the kinds of BI users typically found in most organizations.

With adoption rates being low for "Descriptive" statistics it's not surprising that "Predictive" statistics is even more difficult to widely adopt.

Unplugged - The Disconnect Of Intelligence and Analytics by George Shen

I think the diagrams in this article effectively highlight where Business Analytics fits into the larger BI framework.  Should be useful to others thinking about where Data Mining fits into BI.
